of Algoma University, I would like to invite you to a special guest
lecture being given by Dr. Manuel Rozental.

"Globalization and Indigenous Peoples in the Americas: the Confrontation
of Opposing Paradigms"

Dr. Manuel Rozental

Physician and Peace and Social Justice Activist

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

7:00 pm

Algoma University Amphitheatre

Algoma University College, 1520 Queen Street East

A reception will follow.

Beyond the political confrontation of the right and the left, this last
century inaugurated an old and unresolved contradiction of opposing
paradigms: a dominant one, endorsed by a transnational corporate project
for capital accumulation and an ancestral one, based on the principle of
protecting and promoting life. The ideological and practical differences
between these two paradigms appear irresolvable. As globalization
expands, Indigenous-led resistance has taken on leadership and has become
an inspiration not only for resistance, but also for the development of
another possible and necessary world.

Dr. Rozental has worked with Indigenous people in Colombia, Northern
Saskatchewan and Central America as a physician and as a dedicated peace
and social justice activist. His work with the World Health
Organization (WHO) has influenced UN policy affecting Indigenous peoples.
He is an active member of Pueblos En Camino and recently presented at the
World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela.

Hope to see you there!
