OPPORTUNITY FOR A YOUTH REP TO TAKE PART IN CEPA (Canadian Environmental
Protection Act) REVIEW!

We want you!

You could play a part in reviewing one of the most important pieces of
environmental legislation in Canada! Being a member of the Advisory
Committee for Environment Canada and Health Canada means:

- A 12-18 month commitment to the public review process
- Meeting with other non-governmental organizations, government and industry
representatives (approximately 6-8 meetings of the Advisory Committee with
expenses paid)
- Ensuring you understand the legislation and its strengths and weaknesses
(you do not need to be an expert at the beginning but must be willing to
invest the time to learn)
- Be a self-starter- you must take the initiative to learn and make your
voice heard
- You must represent an environmental group/non-governmental organization
- You must be 18 years of age
- You commit to providing quarterly reports (1-2 pages) to the Youth
Environmental Network on the review process

You will receive support from the 6 environmental non-governmental
organizations that will also be represented. Mentorship opportunities will
be explored to ensure that less experienced youth fully understand the
process and learn from the past experiences of others.

The Ministers of the 2 departments do not make final decisions but provide
recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee that will. This committee
then makes recommendations to Parliament about any appropriate changes to
CEPA and Parliament votes on the changes. For more information on CEPA see
www.ec.gc.ca/CEPARegistry/participation. Questions about the review process?
Contact Derek Stack at the Canadian Environmental Network at 613-728-9810,
ext.22 or derek@cen-rce.org.

Deadline to apply: Monday, April 26th at 9am EST.
