meeting update - Nov 27th

A meeting was held at KB's house 7:30 pm on Nov 27. Present: Don, Kathie, Peter, Mike. Regrets: Murray. Derek didn't know about it.

Peter had made some phone calls about equipment. Derek will make other calls asap. Kathie to make sure Derek knows the list he has is the urgent list.

Lafarge Materials (former Towland-Hewitson) will allow us to store chips, will decide closer to the date how to handle the key/gate situation there.

Soo Disposal will provide two bins, one for trash, the other for Yellow Box materials. Corrugate to be commingled with other fibre.

Kathie has been in touch with the city and with Bruno Vit (Dial Source Plus). Bruno says it's now being handled by Sault This Week, and to call Fred Bright. City is working on a plan to stop picking up trees at curbside, preparing a report to Council. This would require council approval. Kathie has sent a letter of support to be included in the report. The city proposes increasing CN's fee for service to $5k for the extra effort.

Kathie has been unable to contact Scouts. Two issues: our food service for volunteers on chipping day, and a possible tree pickup service for those who phone CN for this. We brainstormed other ideas...

Food service: Sault Search and Rescue, Cadets organizations, or borrowing the Venture Scouts' equipment and recruiting extra CN volunteers to operate the kitchen. Don to follow up.

Tree pickup: need youth who have good adult support, and want to do some fundraising for a cause. St. Marys HS basketball team, Envirothon group? Peter to follow up.

Group discussed lot tags with the message of "no pickup this year". Kathie to design a tag, wait for Council's decision to go to print with it. K to ask Doris to take these to tree lots. K to phone Donna at Rome's to ask if Rome's would like to do a tag/coupon idea for the trees they sell at that location.

Kathie to contact Humane Society, Bike Workshop, and Friends of the Library, to see if they would like to participate this year with special collections. Shriners are in with their trailer for pop cans.

Kathie to write a news release to piggy back on next week's report to School Boards about Grade 12s who still need their community service hours. Don is preparing a package for schools dealing with CN and VTA volunteer opportunities, will be ready for next week.

After the meeting, Don and Mike looked for the electrical cord at the office. They found one long cord with both ends intact, to go from the pole to the trailer, but did not find the cord with one end prepared to attach at the top of the pole. They then went to the mall site and did not see the cord there or any connection change to eliminate the need for the cord.

The whereabouts of the cord need to be determined. PUC may have it, CN may have it in another location, or we may need to purchase another.

Next meeting, Tuesday Dec 3rd, during CN meeting.
