Subject: tree chipping
Kathie - could you pass this around to the people involved - Kip, Don and
anyone else that would like to provide input
Treechipping 2002 - first draft report
Boy Scouts
- set up food area
- provide equipment for heating food/water (this year > a generator for
coffee, slow cooker and coleman stoves) The cast iron pot worked very well
to eliminate burning - provide equipment for washing dishes
- wash dishes and keep area tidy
- serve food
Questions
What did the Scouts purchase and what was the cost?
Were the tables cleaned with hot water at the end (save some hot water)
I believe the Scouts brought jugs for water and mixing juice. Do we see a
need for this (if it were a warm day...?) I believe that they brought
their cast iron pot but used the pots brought to heat up the chile.
Food
The following food was prepared. It appears it was enough and we should
follow this guideline again 4 pots of chili - arriving between 10:00
and 11:00
4 dozen buns
small tub of margarine (does not harden) Make sure Andrea buys small
not large! sugar in one of those restaurant type server things - Clean
North has this hot chocolate syrup mix - not powder - Boy Scouts can
get this through the wholesaler drink crystals - make up in a large
jug - only if it is warm - check with Clean North baking - arriving
throughout the day - 5 people
milk -1 half and half , 1 regular milk carton - was plenty
tea - provided by Clean North - orange pekoe and some herbal teas -
check to see if more needs to be purchased next year
coffee - not a lot was used
Coffee whitener - not Coffee Mate cause it's Nestle
Also provided by Clean North
- mugs, bowls, cutlery, ladles, wooden spoons, dish rags, J cloths, tea
towels, scubbers, dish soap. Need to remember to have knives on hand to
butter the buns.
This Year
1. Drinking water was available - a good thing?
2. Providided baking, water and coffee on Saturday. I only looked after
baking. I think Don is suggesting this is not needed on Saturday or that
it should be available throughout the collection period. Please clarify.
If we are wanting baking throughout the collection period this will involve
quite a bit more calling and organizing. I exhausted my list of people for
the Saturday and Sunday period. If we have another list I could possibly
organize this , but would have to give it some thought first. Any ideas
on how water and coffee could be available throughout that time. 3. Label
hot water urn and containers of drinks and anything not identifiable from
the outside. Was this done? If yes did it help?
Any thing else that was helpful or needs to be looked after. Please let me
know so I can finish this report and have it ready for next year.
