lets get started

Hello, folks.

At the September Clean North meeting we had a long and wonderfully
productive discussion about the future of the Christmas Tree Chipping
event. Several things were agreed on, and so it's time to start making
it happen.

First, we need to develop a budget for this year's event. I would like
it if everyone would submit a wishlist of budget line items so that we
can get a good start on this before the October 4th Clean North
meeting. Try to be as detailed as you can be on the line items you want
- for example, if it's new signs, say how many, what size, whether the
cost you're suggesting is based on any actual information about the cost
of signs or is a ballpark number you think we should spend on signs and
get the most we can for that amount. You get the idea.

If everyone emails me their wishlist, I will compile them into a budget
and also start the process of identifying where the money is to come
from. We agreed that the $4k the city pays us could be used for tree
chipping expenses but that if we could get other $ that would be better,
because the city money comes with no strings attached.

Think about what ways the event could be made more effective - that is,
what can we do to get our Three R's, environmental responsibility
message out to more people, more effectively, etc. A larger festival
atmosphere? Side events? Other materials collections? Better media
(be specific!)? Other partners we haven't worked with before?

Also, it's time to start thinking about what role, if any, you would
like to take on for this event. Past roles have included food,
volunteer scheduling, site, equipment, office support, publicity.
Future roles may be the same, or different, depending on the vision for
this year, so go ahead and think large.

All of the last year's work that passed between members of this list, is
stored on http://lists.cleannorth.org as the contents of the treechip
archive. Go and have a look to refresh your memory if you are wondering
about anything.

I'll start compiling a binder. See you next week at the Clean North
meeting (Thursday night)?
