RE: food report

Thanks for this, Andrea. It looks good. Yes, things went rather smoothly
this year, and the food was wonderful! Thanks for all your efforts.

I agree the baking could arrive all day. The Carnation stuff sounds like a
good idea, but it would be good if there were another brand of similar
stuff, as the last I knew, Carnation was a Nestle brand. I think nobody
knew there was hot chocolate this year, with it hiding inside that pretty
tin. Previous years we've had hot chocolate in the brand-name canister, and
it was very popular. Also the urn of hot water wasn't labelled.

Marshmallows for the chocolate? :)

Maybe baking could be available on the Saturday, but I think not before
that, because we really just guess at how busy we're going to be, and the
number of volunteers on each shift changes constantly, so baking would get
stale and go to waste. Comments, Don?

One thing I would like to see if we can do, is to have coffee available for
the Three R's Festival people on the Saturday. It might be a challenge
because of electricity.

Thanks again for all your hard work.

Subject: food report

Tree Chipping - 2001 -
Draft report

QUESTIONS
Don - how much coffee did you buy and was it enough? What type?
General - should baking be provided for the days volunteers are on site
prior to chipping?
- any suggestions for improvement/changes?
- was the food setup good - was everything visible?
- Is drinking water available?
- anything else that should be included in this report?

Clean North involvement
- call for volunteers to donate food
- provide/purchase cleaning supplies
- provide cutlery, bowls, mugs, serving utensils

Boy Scouts
- set up food area
- provide equipment for heating food/water (this year > a generator for
coffee, slow cooker and coleman stoves)
- provide equipment for washing dishes
- wash dishes and keep area tidy
- serve food

Comments
- It appeared to me that the baking lasted throughout the day and did not
need to be held back.
- The slow cooker seemed to work well and did not burn the chili > as well
they had a great cast iron pot that also seemed to reduce burning potential.
- Have some containers available so left overs can be stored - pea soup,
buns, margarine, baking donated to soup kitchen
- It looked like everything ran very smoothly.
Reminder - wash and clean tables at the end.
- look for a donation of propane

Food
The following food was prepared for the event
4 pots of chili - arriving between 10:00 and 11:00
1 pot of pea soup (not eaten)
4 dozen buns
small tub of margarine (does not harden)
sugar cubes
hot chocolate mix
drink crystals - eliminate for next year
baking - arriving throughout the day
milk -1 half and half , 1 regular milk carton
tea - provided by Clean North
coffee - provided by Don

Food recommendations for next year.
- amounts seemed to be adequate except - drink crystals were not used
- Andrea will purchase a sugar dispenser - instead of sugar cubes
- Andrea will look for a Carnation chocolate syrup that, according to the
Boy Scouts, tastes and mixes much better.
- adding another item like pea soup seemed to be more of a problem, so I
don't think I'll bother with this next year. Comments?
- do we need a vegetarian chili?

Also provided by Clean North
- mugs, bowls, cutlery, ladles, wooden spoons, dish rags, J cloths, tea
towels, scubbers,
dish soap
Should we also supply propane?
