Jim had a look at it.  There was a label stuck to the drum right where no
toner was going on the paper at the edge.  I don't know how well that drum
will function now, so consider yourself lucky that HP makes the drum part of
the toner cart, and you're getting a new toner cart. :)

(With some other printer manufacturers, replacing the drum is 90% of the
cost of replacing the printer).
