fax not receiving

Error report

This morning (and last Thursday too but I forgot to tell anyone) our 
fax machine rang, but no fax was received.

We have the fax set up to receive via the network 
(through a modem) and through the laserjet (I think it's to Jabba but 
I'm not sure) and we only send via the fax machine.

I'm not familiar enough with this to know what to do next.  Is there 
something I should check on before troubling you with this?  Outgoing 
faxes are fine, and both the laserjets were turned on, full of paper, 
etc. when the fax machine rang.  I did not check line hookups though 
(the phone was ringing pretty constantly too).
