Routers: I got a new heatsink/fan for quigon, and Jim threw a gob of thermal grease on it. It shouldn't be overheating again any time soon. Plotters: I had a look at the HP DraftPro (the 7550A's baby brother) and it appears to work fine as well as I can test it. (I don't have any paper big enough to feed it, and (unlike the 7550A) its track won't shrink down enough to accept 8-1/2 X 11. I haven't had a chance to look at the CalComp stuff (Dee, sorry I left that stuff on your desk, just put it somewhere obvious) in depth, but it does appear to be thermal _transfer_ (aka the tech old fax machines use X 36") not thermal _wax_ (the tech some of the first color printers used). That'll make it cheaper to run, but limits the number of colors somewhat. Quick research shows that thermal transfer can support black, red, and blue. Looking on the cover of the manual shows a plot with black and red on it, so (without _much_ evidence) I'd assume it just does black and red. The other problem with thermal transfer is it requires special paper which in this (and probably all) case is very thin. You can't put a good thick bond through it, so the output wouldn't be something to archive... you'd plot something big and use it for a year before it disintegrates. Printers: Does someone care to quote a price for an HP LaserJet III with a busted gear in the fuser assembly? Jim has expressed interest in buying the thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1238429028 has a used fuser assembly going for ~14.99$US + 10$shipping. The printer _can_ print without the gear, but only out the back, and only if babysat. In our BOYD pricelist, we said laser printers were to go for 20-100$ Is this even on the scale (since it's broken). -Dan -- "There are two limits that this standard places on the number of characters in a line.
