addresses @cleannorth.org

Over the weekend, I intend to break @cleannorth.org addresses as they
currently function. That means anyone with an address in the cleannorth.org
domain will need to reconfigure their email clients.

If you have one of these addresses and it is important for you to have
access to your email over the weekend, contact me privately and I will give
you instructions ahead-of-time on how to reconfigure your client.

This will result in three things finally:

1) Anyone with an account on the Clean North network will automatically
have an @cleannorth.org address which is <theirusername>@cleannorth.org.
Their netscape preferences will be autoconfigured to use this email.
2) Authentication to the mailserver happens over the private network which
makes it not vulnerable to sniffing except in our tightly-controlled
environment (where sniffing is unlikely).
3) Fetching mail will be faster as we won't be relying on the external
link.

No email will be lost in this transition, however, some mail may take longer
to arrive over the weekend.

Also, this will finally cause the @cleannorth.org/@lists.cleannorth.org
split that I've talked about before: techies@cleannorth.org will no longer
work. You'll have to use techies@lists.cleannorth.org.

I will post instructions on reconfiguring your mail client to this list when
this is finished. If this list sends to an @cleannorth.org address, you can
always read my post by going to http://lists.cleannorth.org/archive/techies/

Thanks for your patience.
