Hello All:

I recently attended a Pesticide By-Laws workshop at the Sierra Club "People
and the Planet" conference in Kingston, and thought I would pass along a few
bits of info that were shared there.

1. Angela Rickman, with S. Club in Ottawa, has a Powerpoint presentation
from the Canadian Cancer Society - from when they came out with their
position against cosmetic use of pesticides. Angela also has copies of a
joint news release from S. Club and the CCS (dated March 1st). You can
download the CCS Position Statement on the Ornamental Use of Pesticides at:
www.cancer.ca/english/index.asp   You have to do some navigating around the
site to find it, but it's there...

2. The Campaign for Pesticide Reduction! group is still active out of the
Sierra Club office in Ottawa. You can call them at 1-888-810-4204. They
still sell those great lawn signs that say "No Pesticides...I love my family
and the environment more than my lawn."

3. I told folks about the excellent 11 minute video "Poison Mist - The
Hazards and Consequences of Pesticides" - put out last year by the Workers
Health and Safety Centre. It covers the issues well, and features Dr. Tom
Barnard, Dr. Janette Sherman, and Dr. Theo Colborne. It mentions the "trade
secret" issue and hormonal disruption. My group recently showed the video to
our Council when we asked them to enact a Halifax-style by-law in Scugog
Township (Port Perry).

The video costs $40. (for the general public) and can be ordered through the
appropriate regional office of the Worker Health and Safety Centre. If you
call to order a copy, ask to speak to one of their training service
representatives.
