RE: air quality petition

Hello to all, The data regarding the exceedences is from Table 5 in the Report on Sault Ste Marie 2006 Particulate Monitoring Special Study issued By Sandra Ausma, Air Quality Analyst, MOE Sudbury.
I have the full report and if you would like an electronic copy I can send it upon request.
The health data is from the Ontario Medical Assoc Report "Illness Costs of Pollution" or ICAP is in the report attached above. a slight misquote as the report shows 46 premature deaths and 99 hospital admissions for 2005 and the numbers in brackets are predicted fro 2026 if current practices continue.
As you may see in the media soon there is news of ASI installing some temporary baghouses so the petition may need rethinking.

Hi David,

Can you confirm the facts laid out in the WHEREAS portion of the petition?  It might help if there were references provided for these.

WHEREAS ASI (Algoma Steel Inc.) exceeded the MOE’s (Ministry of Environment) own emissions standards 1800x during a six month study in 2006, without penalty, and contributing to over 100 hospital admissions and 42 deaths due to poor air quality in Sault Ste. Marie.

Hello to all
Here is a copy of the petition for anyone to either sign or circulate. I just received it yesterday and expect it will be showing up in various locations. Below is the original message from Ingrid who was the woman at the "Garbage" video who suggested the petition and it is being circulated as her individual effort. Any help getting signatures will be appreciated and hopefully the company will modify its application for the Certificate of Approval to include emission controls before submitting the application. There is a feeling that this may be in the works which is the ultimate goal of this campaign.
