Hello all,I have been talking with Brennain Lloyd of Northwatch, about an evening presentation/workshop on nuclear and electricity issues. She's now ready to move on this (see below) and would like to come to the Sault for a workshop on the evening of June 9 or 10.
I'm very interested in this and would love to have CN co-host it. Northwatch takes very carefully- and thoroughly-researched positions, and I completely trust their ability to present material accurately and without being inflammatory. We could hand out the last of the Porchlight bulbs, and some of the water pipe insulation, at the event.
Your opinions on two matters: 1. should CN co-host? 2. which date? and any other related opinions too, would be greatly appreciated. thanks Kathie ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Date: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 10:14 PM -0400 From: Northwatch <northwatch@onlink.net> To: kathie@cleannorth.org Subject: Workshops on the Bruce EAs in June - Shall we come to the Sault? Kathie, my dear Just sent this email (below) off to Ziggy about a possible worshop with CFRE as part a northern nuke tour! Since you and I talked about it a week or so ago the idea has continued to ferment in my brain, and Phillip has now agreed to take a week off work and make it a holiday, so with childcare lined up I am ready to go! The conversation at the Northwatch spring meeting was that we'd twin workshop on the Bruce EAs (for which we have both funding and an obligation) with another more local nuke interest issues, such as the refinery in Blind River and on Manitoulin and electricty issues more generally while we're in the Sault and Sudbury. And so use these workshops as organizing efforts not just around the Bruce projects but around nuclear and energy issues more generally. Are you still game for one in Sault Ste. Marie? I ran into Katie while checking into the hotel for the LCC meeting on the weekend, and she seem enthusiastic, so if she is our focus group on whether to do it or not we probably should go ahead! Date wise, I'm thinking the week of June 8th to 14th, which would mean - depending on how many dates we do and which direction we travel in - we could be in the Sault either the 10th or the 11th (Tuesday or Wednesday). Should we do it? And, if so, do either of those dates work? Hope you are well, Brennain To: "S. Haven't built the workshop yet, but we're thinking along the lines of an hour and a half to two hours, with some time on each of the CEAA / CNSC process, the Bruce new build, the Bruce DUD, the draft joint panel agreements, the draft EIS guidelines, nukes in the world in general (this part will vary from town to town, eg more on the refinery when we're in Blind River, more on the IPSP when we're in the Sault) (this quick list is not the order we'd do them in for the workshop). And hopefully we'll be able to include a couple of video clips from the Greenpeace experts as part of either the project descriptions or the EIS guidelines review, depending on what they say in their videos). Timing-wise we're looking at the week of June 18-14, which is precariously close to the deadline for comments but the first time that we have a block of time available, which would be the more efficient - and more fun - way to go about this. The "tour" would be bookended by a baby shower in Collingwood on June 8th in the afternoon and a wedding in Prince Edward County on June 14, but if you want to do a workshop together somewhere close to you we could do it the evening of Sunday, June 8th on our way to our first workshops which will be on Manitoulin on June 9th. Alternatively we could do something with you on Thursday evening, June 12th, if we did the tour in the opposite direction. Thanks for thinking about this. I'd appreciate knowing if your interested as soon as possible, as we'd like to start booking the dates Thursday and Friday, and to firm things up we'll need to know if you are interested in either the 8th or the 12th.
