Air Quality Petition

Hi David,

At the meeting last night we discussed the petition.

The consensus was that there should be no problem for petitions to be dropped off at Clean North for collection as long as the petition itself is not construed as a Clean North initiative.  We trust that you will look out for Clean North's interest in this regard.

Hello everyone, as mentioned I will be away for this meeting as I will be ar Point Pelee. However there is an item for the group to consider. If you recall from the Earth day event a woman spoke about getting a petition going relatied to the air quality issue surrounding the blast furnace at Algoma Steel. She now has a draft petition which will be discussed also on Tues at the Air Quality Steering Committee meeting. She has asked if completed petitions could be dropped off at the CN office where I could then collect them. She (Ingrid Dobringer) will also be collecting from others to whom she has given them. I explained our potential difficulty with this as we have charitable status and while this does fall into our area of concern I wanted to run this by the officers to get the collective opinion. Because this is a provincial issue it is not appopriate to drop them at Tony Martin's office and it is unlikely that our MPP will be willing to take thenm considering his position on the issue. Hence the need for a central drop off point.
I have not attached the petition as it will likely be modified at the Air Quality Meeting but could do so when I return. Essentially it is to the Legislature of Ontario asking that ASI not be given a Cetificate of Approval until a baghouse is installed on # 6 blast furnace.
Let me know by email after the meeting and I can inform her of the decision.

Have a productive meeting
David T
