Re: energy efficiency in the home

Hello Debra, so glad to hear from you.

Clean North is very interested in learning more about the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program. We participated through our local Green Community organization in the EnerGuide For Houses and previous home visit programs, and are keen to find out about the new program.

We receive many calls about home energy retrofit programs, and would like to have the latest and accurate information at our fingertips when we answer these calls.

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month (which means tomorrow), in the evenings. You would be welcome tomorrow, next month, or at any of our future meetings. In addition, we are planning an event on Saturday the 23rd, at which many of our key volunteers will be in attendance. Perhaps we could arrange an informal gathering at that time if it were more suitable for you. In the meantime I will pass the brochure along to the others, for their information.

Please let us know when you would like to visit.

Sincerely,
Kathie Brosemer
Chair, Clean North

Hello,

I am writing to introduce myself and let you know that a new program is up and running called the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program, providing homeowners with up to $5,000 worth of grants from Natural Resources Canada when they make energy efficiency improvements to their homes. We are a company licensed by NR-Can to perform the energy assessments in homes, so that people can receive their grants. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to speak to your members for about 15-20 minutes at one of your meetings. I’m not sure when I’ll be in town, but can you tell me if that is possible and when you meet?

You may remember EnerGuide for Houses; this new program is much better because the formula for understanding what the homeowner will receive in grants, is prescriptive. You can see the grant amounts in the attached brochure, on page 2. In addition to what you see on the brochure, the Ontario Home Energy Retrofit Program is matching the attached grant amounts dollar for dollar, so what you see on page 2 is actually doubled for the homeowners. So the total possible grant is actually $10,000.

For example, if a homeowner replaces their old heating system with an ENERGY STAR qualified furnace or upgraded woodstove, they can receive an approximate $1,000 grant. Installing a heat recovery ventilator provides $600 in rebate. Upgrading the level of insulation in a home gives the homeowner anywhere from $360 to $1,800 in rebates. Smaller grants are provided for items such as windows and doors. The categories that are included in this program are heating, cooling and ventilation systems, hot water systems, attic, exterior wall, basement and crawl space insulation, air sealing, doors, windows and skylights and toilets. This is such a win-win situation for the homeowner and for the environment. I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience,

Thanks!
