Re: Donation

Hi Stacey,

That's very kind of you - you've made some hardworking volunteers very happy with this!

Our mulch event will be on a Sunday in August - right now we're looking at either the 12th or the 19th. We'll be at Lemieux Composting on Black Road, not certain of the hours yet. I can give you more solid information as we get nearer to the date.

We chip Christmas trees every January, the spent natural trees from the holidays, rather than have them end up in landfill. We've done this for seventeen years now, and the city stopped collecting trees at curbside about five years ago, realizing we were already getting 98% of the trees.

The chipped material is stored at two locations, the Allard Street Community Gardens and Lemieux Composting. The pile at Allard Street we use for our gardens, tree planting programs, trail dressing, etc. and the pile at Lemieux is for public use. Of course, not many know about this, so we hold a summer event to publicise it and also promote tree planting. This feeds two birds with one seed.

We have lots of potted trees and seedlings that volunteers sow and tend throughout the year, surplus from our own tree planting projects, so we have a tree sale, raise a few dollars and give away the mulch for free. It works out nicely.

The Brookfield students would be needed to set up signs and tables, greet people, pop tree seedlings out of styro blocks and bag them for people, shovel tree chip mulch into people's containers for them, and afterwards to clean up and put away tables and signs. Some of you might be willing and able to answer questions about trees and tree planting, but if not, that's ok too as we have some forestry folks as volunteers who can handle that. If that sounds like something that your group could get into, we'd love to have you. Our events are usually a good time for everyone.

Again, many thanks for deciding to support Clean North. We're very grateful for your interest and we are all looking forward to meeting you.

No problem regarding the delay.

We would definitely like to make a donation to Clean North. It will be
cumulative of all of the summer BBQS and Bake sales that we have
throughout the summer, so I do not have a monetary figure for you.

Could I get more information from you regarding the summer mulch givaway
and tree sale? It would be great if we could help out at that!

Thanks,

Hi Stacey,

Thanks for writing! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I had a very hectic week last week at work, then on the weekend my daughter had her gymnastics meet in North Bay.

Clean North does numerous environmental projects throughout the year. Right now we're doing rainbarrel-building parties (next one is this evening, and we have Katimavik youth working with us this time), some tree planting and litter cleanups, and we're planning for our summer mulch giveaway and tree sale for mid-August. The students at Brookfield

would be very much welcome to help at that event. If you'd like to come

and learn how to build rainbarrels with us at the subsequent rainbarrel parties we will have throughout spring and early summer, let me know and

I'll tell you when they're scheduled. We have a big back room workshop space at the Clean North office on Queen Street.

Your donation would be helpful to us as we try to recover from the overwhelming public response to our Earth Day event, which was the computer and e-waste recycling program. This time we were swamped, needed three transport trucks to move the waste to the recyclers in southern Ontario (the most we've ever needed before in fourteen such events, was one and a half trucks). And we're still waiting for the bill for recycling the monitors. The city offered to pay half, up to $1000, and we expect a bill near $4000. So we're a bit shocked by the results and a donation from your BBQ and the company would be very helpful right now.

Again, many thanks for getting in touch, and we appreciate your
interest.

Hello:

Every summer, the summer students of Brookfield Power have a BBQ every

2^nd week with the money raised and increased by the company donated
to
a local cause.
I am currently trying to research organizations to donate to and I
think
that Clean North would be a great venture since we are a "pro environmental" company.
Besides the form of a monetary donation, how else can Brookfield Power

donate to the company? Are there clean ups that are run..etc?

Any information you can give me as to what the donation may be put towards or other ways our company could donate to your cause would be appreciated.

As soon as possible will be wonderful, since I am planning to make a decision in the next day or so.

Thanks,
