I've made a couple of minor adjustments...
Minutes of Clean North Meeting Tuesday Feb 15, 2005
Present : K Brosemer, D McGorman, D Trowbridge, R Thomas, P McLarty, R. McIntomney, MJ Armitage, YEP representative, Guest Chris ?
.Financial report- Ralph gave current balance as $11474.77 plus $5000 due from city re tree chipping.
.BOYD- Peter said either 16/17 or 22/23 April has been requested from PUC for use of usual Second Line building. Algoma Steel has a large quantity of computer equipment, which they will sort and give us the useful material for resale. They will dispose of the rest. Habitat for Humanity is looking at setting up a reuse centre locally and may have an effect on future projects. Sootoday.com has a reuse bulletin board where free but useful things can be advertised.
.Scrounge Day- Peter informed us that we may need city approval to pile ?stuff? on the curbside. The request for a free week at the landfill has come to council and will likely go ahead. We need to present our request to council that prior to a free week there should be a ?scrounge day?. The name ?freecycle? was suggested by Don and we will try to get on the council agenda for a Mar 7 meeting and make a request for such a day. We will try to arrange for the Sault Star to run an ad with related sponsors to get the message out.
.Bus Terminal relocation- Peter had information that the city is considering moving the city bus terminal from Queen Street to the bus barn area on Huron Street. This would allow more parking for the proposed arena. We need to put objections into words that citizens can call councilors to express their opposition. Peter to draft talking points, Kathie to include in e-news.
.City composting- Peter reported that And-Son is no longer in the competition as they were unable to get MOE approval.
.Summer students- Proposed to apply for three positions in case program is under-subscribed with a proposal for these students to work with the commercial sector to initiate and expand recycling activities in the city. Randy Roy, city waste diversion coordinator will be applying for the multi-residential sector.
.A&P slips-notice to be included in e-news to encourage members to contribute, we have $7000 value in slips, which can be converted at $1 per $450 of purchases.
.Rain Barrels- Peter confirmed he would go ahead again this year with a likely demand for 30 barrels.
.Office Staffing- a general call for volunteers to keep the office open as much as possible. Another e-news point.
.Fort Creek trails- Peter reported the city has given authorization for snowmobiles to pass through Fort Creek Conservation area with little notice or discussion. The non-motorized link trail has not been finalized and would possibly have used Fort Creek as well.
.Pine Street extension- Andre Riopel organized a meeting attended by 30-40 citizens and had support from Councilor Brian Hayes, who stated he was prepared to fight the extension.
.Newsletter- Mar 1 deadline for submissions to ed@cleannorth.org
.Tree Bylaw- Kathie and Ursula Schleen will attend meetings with city staff and there seems to be support. Existing bylaws in Ottawa and Toronto are being used as models for the proposed Sault bylaw.
.YEP report- a successful fundraiser dinner generated $1000. From that amount $550 was donated towards tsunami relief, $110 to Clean North, $50 to adopt a polar bear and the balance $300 approx. to YEP accounts for future projects.
.Next Meeting- Mon Mar 7 meeting at Council Chambers at 5:00 for delegation re ?freecycle? day or 6:30 at Clean North office.
