I will be out of town June 15 through the 19th so it will be somewhat more difficult than usual for me to arrange youth volunteers to help with the loading. This is on top of the fact that it's a difficult time of year to ask people to volunteer anyway.
While we can do our best to recruit volunteers, I'd like to have a contingency plan to hire labour at the last minute if we need it, particularly if we are flooded with disposal items.

I have two options for BOYD locations. Date is June 20,21 (the following week is the long holiday weekend so a no-go).
Both locations have severe limitations. Pick the constraints you are most willing to deal with: (especially Peter and Jack as the constraints most concern your area)
1. Station Mall has two small stores opposite each other. Benefits are the usual Mall benefits - parking, washrooms, tables, publicity. The severe constraint this time will be space - there is barely enough space for techies and sales, no space whatsoever for making pallets (or even piling up the junk!) except for on the loading dock itself, and they don't want us moving junk through the mall during shopping hours. this could be really difficult. And forget amenity space like food and drink. It's tight.
There are also no back doors on either of these stores, so we'd have essentially the same situation as last time with drop offs - businesses would drop to the loading dock, we'd triage there, and Saturday customers would have to bring stuff through the mall.
2. The Bingo Hall on Queen Street (old theatre building). Benefits are lots of room, tons of chairs to use. It has ample electricity, a couple of separate rooms in front (lobby) for sales, separate from technical area. Great Triage area, also separate. Drawback is the loading, too. We would have to load the pallets right on the truck. I think we could do this if we planned for the extra labour involved. (rotating crews of four young people - two on the truck, two off, and the loading manager setting up the pallets and designating what goes in them).
There is a double door at the back but it has a post in the centre, there are four steps down from the main room to the back door. We can block the back door area off with the truck so drop offs on the Saturday won't be a problem.
The plumbing is shut off, so we'll have to use washrooms nearby or post a volunteer at the CN office which is just one block away. The balcony would make a great lunchroom if we're prepared for the additional cleanup.
The sports association wants a contribution, suggested that we could ask for a toonie at the door instead of our loonie, and split the proceeds with them. Any comments on this idea? Or just stick with our loonie and turn over that $250 or so to them?
In either location, if we got the truck Friday 5 pm we could schedule a team to load the junk from Friday, to have it all out of the way before Saturday's arrivals.
Comments wanted please.... further questions about either spot?
k
