Hello, The group from Wawa are looking for Clean
North to support their report to the MOE and Environment Assessment Board
requesting a "bump-up" of the proposed development of the Trap Rock
operation at Michipicoten. We learned of many of the concerns at the Northwatch
meeting last weekend and the report is available to review. I have read it and
hopefully an electronic copy can be sent to this list tomorrow. They want to
send their letter off on Tuesday so a quick perusal would be
helpful.
One suggestion that came up at the meeting was
to request that any development along the newly proposed Canadian Heritage Coast
be automatically subject to a full EA even when on private land. No doubt the
council in Wawa and the neighbouring Indian Band are all looking for economic
activity in the area to create employment so any position seen to interfere with
that could spark reaction. We need to decide, as soon as possible, if this is
something we want put our support behind . We have already given them our
support for the grant application which is still in process. I certainly think
we can support the idea of a full EA along the coast as this may be necessary
for other activities in our area.
