Today Clean North announced that it is asking all Sault residents to participate in a Scavenger Hunt! On Saturday, September 21, residents can put unwanted items at the curb for others to help themselves. "It's a variation on the old Spring Cleanup Day," said Kathie Brosemer, chair of the local environmental group. "We know that one person's trash is another's treasure, so we're organizing a citywide treasure hunt!" "It's amazing what is wanted," says Suzanne Hanna, one of the organizers of the event. "Scrap lumber, toys, furniture (broken or whole) all tend to disappear pretty quickly during these events. If you're done with the garage sale season but have some things to get rid of, here's your chance." To add to the interest, Clean North is preparing a sign which will be delivered door to door, for residents to use to identify their scavenge-able items. "This will make it easier to know for sure that what you're scavenging was really intended for that," says Brosemer. "Part of the sign will be a draw prize slip for those who participate in Scavenger Day. We want to know how many people participate, so we're offering a free draw in exchange for a little information," Brosemer added. "Tell us how it worked for you, and you'll qualify for some great prizes donated by local businesses." Watch for the sign/draw slip in the September 18th edition of the Sault This Week (or Sault Star, I don't know yet which will be less expensive!) The timing of the event was carefully chosen. The group says that the week after Scavenger Day is the week the city has free dumping at the landfill site on Fifth Line. So residents left with un-scavenged items can bring them to the landfill without charge.
