pasted in below is a letter to Elizabeth of Zonta, self-explanatory, except to confirm that Elizabeth was talking in the neighbourhood of $300. contribution. k 17 July 2002 Ms. Elizabeth Mackinnon Service chair, Zonta Club 12 Grandview Avenue Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B 3V8 Dear Elizabeth: I am writing to express our gratitude that Zonta Club would like to support some of Clean North’s environmental efforts with a contribution towards our work. As we discussed, the Clean North office and Environmental Resource Room is desperately in need of a fax machine. Our old laser fax began struggling several years ago, and last fall we replaced it with a used machine that has unfortunately never worked properly. In recent weeks we have had no fax capability whatsoever. The Resource Room serves as a workplace for several volunteers and occasional paid project staff working to carry out such Clean North projects as the Paint Reuse Centre, the Community Bicycle Workshop, the Book ‘Em, Dan-O book recycling event, the popular Bring Out Your Dead Computer recycling events, the Vehicle Emissions Clinic, tree planting projects, Christmas Tree Chipping, Phone book recycling, Green Garden events promoting pesticide-free lawn and garden care, and many others. The Resource Room also houses a lending library which is very popular with students working on environmental projects, and citizens interested in a particular environmental issue. In addition, it’s a source of information to local residents who phone for answers to questions as diverse as “where can I buy a composter or rainbarrel,” “how can I get this company to clean up its operations,” and “what can be done about these insects, organically?” It’s a busy place, and our fax capability is sorely missed. We have located a new laser fax (plain paper so it can be recycled, and so that we can reuse one-side-used paper given to us by a local school) at a very good price. A volunteer has secured a promise from Staples of an additional 10% discount. It’s an excellent reliable brand, Brother, so we anticipate this fax unit will serve our office well, for many years. The machine is on sale for $349, with the discount it will be 314.10 plus taxes bringing the total to 361.21. Any contribution you can make towards this purchase will be gratefully appreciated, and acknowledged in our next newsletter. Thank you very much for your generous offer, Kathleen Brosemer Chair
