book recycling results

Peter reports 36 pallets ready to go, to be loaded onto trucks in the near
future... volunteers will be needed to be pallet jockeys at that time -
Peter will let us know. 7 pallets to be sent to St. Lucia for
schoolchildren there, 29 pallets to Montreal for recycling into roofing
felt and toilet tissue. You may get to meet your favourite books again!

We retrieved three or four items to add to the CN library. Many of our
volunteers enjoyed selecting some new summer reading. A few items went to
the Friends of the Library for their antique books sale. And quite a few
of our customers took books away with them. I estimate that at least one
more pallet load went off for reuse.

Our donation bin gathered 299.26. Expenses to date total 174.57, including
9.90 for timbits, 64.40 for those bookmarks, 54.28 for stretch wrap, and
45.99 for our latest capital purchase, a lovely hand truck that will be
very useful for so many of our projects. Peter will paint it
distinctively. So our net for this project is $125.

No injuries have been reported. We have built on our relationships with
the PUC, Sault Disposal, both school boards, the Friends of the Library,
Equipment World, and the City Works department.

All in all, quite a successful event. Unless something changes as we deal
with the recycler, the transportation, or some other aspect, I recommend
that we make this one of our annual recycling events, on the late-June
calendar.

thanks to all who were part of this. I will get a names list to print in
the next newsletter.
