Hello! Please help this weekend! See below... 1. Please help at BOYD 2. Peter is our nominee on Source Water Protection 3. Annual Meeting is Friday October 12 at Mockingbird Hill Farm 4. Ask candidates about pesticides 5. Gift certificates for rainbarrels or bat houses 6. Fair Trade game balls 7. Tree mulch is at Lemieux's ********************************* 1. Please help at BOYD We need you! Like never before! We have a new location, we're all still a bit shellshocked from the dumping we received last time out, we're already feeling overwhelmed. If you can help, even for just one hour, please do! Email volunteer@cleannorth.org to tell us.
Volunteers are needed to greet people and carry stuff - from 10 am til we get it cleaned up, probably 6 pm this coming Saturday. We'll feed you!
It's a great event for young people to get their high school volunteer hours, so if you know any such people, please let them know we need them too.
************************************* 2. Peter is our nominee on Source Water ProtectionThe new Source Water Protection committee was asking for an environmental-groups representative. We've nominated Peter McLarty, a very active CN volunteer and former high school science teacher. He'll do a good job. If you want to let him know your thoughts on this important matter, let me know and I'll give him your email address.
************************************ 3. Annual Meeting is Friday October 12 at Mockingbird Hill FarmThe most-fun Annual Meeting in the history of organizations! Potluck at Mockingbird Hill Farm, campfire and ghost stories, and the corn maze! No need to RSVP - just bring something good to eat. This event is for all Clean North members - you don't have to have been an active volunteer or participate in any other way. It's a great social event.
*********************************** 4. Ask candidates about pesticidesHot topic this election! They've finally caught on - more than one party is endorsing a provincewide ban on cosmetic use of pesticides. Get the details from the candidates at the door, and see who is really taking this seriously and who's just blowing smoke.
************************************* 5. Gift certificates for rainbarrels or bat houses Great Christmas gift! Delivered in spring 2008. ********************************** 6. Fair Trade game ballsAnother great Christmas gift for the young and the youthful on your list. The Y Service Club is bringing in Fair Trade game balls. They have volleyballs, beach volleyballs, rugby, soccer, and basketballs. These are made without the use of child labour, a grim reality in the sports balls supply chain from regular retail.
Support children's rights! Buy your kids Fair Trade game balls. ********************************** 7. Tree mulch is at Lemieux'sThought you'd missed your chance! No way! Still lots of tree chip mulch remaining at Lemieux Composting. Perfect for your fall tree planting projects.
water well! and have a lovely autumn. hope to see you Saturday! Kathie
