In this issue: 1. Computers available (and computer recycling) 2. Pesticide action 3. Newsletter deadline 4. Calendar for spring @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 1. Computers AvailableIn preparation for this spring's Bring Out Your Dead computer recycling event, we responded to a call from a local institution that had a large number of very nice, later, working systems to give us. Mark has sorted through a stack of stuff and just sent me a list - there are sixteen Pentium IIIs, up to 933 mhz processors. This is sweet stuff.
I wanted to give CN members first notice. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you the list. These are also great "wishlist" systems so if you know a charitable organization or client of one, who could use a system and has the wherewithal to install software on it, let them know to let me know.
In other news, the next BOYD is a go for 28 April. Same bat time, same bat channel.
This may be our last BOYD, depending on developments at the city and at the province. The city is looking into collection at the HSW depot this summer, it hasn't been approved yet but if it happens, we won't need to do a fall BOYD. And the province is looking into ways to enforce producer responsibility for e-waste, may be getting close to taking action. Any provincial action will likely be carried out through municipalities.
In honour of it possibly being our last BOYD, we have again nominated TransProvincial Freight for the Mayor's Award. Without their consistently cheerful support, the last six years of computer recycling would have been impossible.
############################ 2. Pesticide ActionClean North is once again considering how far to push for a pesticide bylaw in the city. If this is something you've wanted to work on in the past, now would be a good time to come to a CN meeting. We could use your help!
If you've never been to a CN meeting, here's the basics: all members are very much welcome, there's no "board" or anyone with any more privileges to speak than anyone else, and Suzanne, the secretary, is hilarious! She could do standup. We won't be boring.
Next meeting is Tues April 10th at 7:30. Any changes will be announced on the outgoing message at the CN office, 945-1573.
************************************ 3. NewsletterYes, there really is going to be one! An Earth Day issue, so sharpen your pencils. We would love to see your poem, joke, cartoon, article, how-to, product review, etc. Think Spring!
and email ed@cleannorth.org. That's Editor, not Edwin. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 4. Calendar of EventsPick up your bookmark soon at the CN office or any of these events. You will find details on the following:
28 April - BOYD as mentioned above 21 April ? - Earth Day cleanup by the VTA Sometime in May - a Worm Composting Workshop 3 May - opening day for the city's HSW depot 26 May - Hort Society plant saleAnd watch for our helping the city promote a pesticide clearout in conjunction with the opening of the HSW depot this spring.
Have a wonderful spring!
Kathie
