1. Pasta supper Friday for YEP

Tomorrow, Friday January 7th, you don't have to cook! The Youth Environment Program, YEP, is hosting a "pasta dinner and coffee house", at St. John's Church (136 John St,). Doors open at 6 and dinner is 6:30. Cost $10 Proceeds to WWF (and Asian Relief). Call 945-1269 to reserve your ticket.

2. Tree chipping details

A little bit different this year. First, please make sure to drop your tree off by Saturday night. The Grinder will leave the site on Sunday morning as soon as the pile is gone, so any trees arriving after that won't be in our mulch.

Second, if you want tree mulch, it will be available at about noon on Sunday or as soon as we can get some safely moved. Safety is a bigger issue than before with the new equipment, so we're going to be really cautious about keeping people away and we'll only move the mulch when we're sure it's okay. So it probably won't be ready for you in the morning.

Third, if you're signed up to volunteer, dress warmly! Take good care of yourself! And thank you!

3. Anti-Idling campaign

Marc, Andre, and I met last night and planned a fairly low-energy campaign to raise awareness of the pollution (and costs!) of idling vehicles. There's great material already available for us to use, on a federal government website, so not a lot of work to do there. We're planning a school based program, seeking a few keen principals to promote an idle-free school parking area. We have more ideas, but not a lot of energy to put into it right now, but if others come out to play, we could do more.

If you are interested but didn't come to the meeting because you're not a "planning" type, there will be opportunities to help. Right now, for instance, the tree chip volunteers are handing out anti-idling brochures at the tree site. If you have a child in elementary school, or are a teacher in a local school, we could use your help with the school-based program. And, we've considered doing a block-heater promotion at Canadian Tire or somewhere.

If interested in possibly helping with some of these ideas, please email kathie@cleannorth.org. Thanks!
