1. The Mailing

Shortly to arrive in your mailbox is the Annual Appeal letter. Remember
last year when we asked for money? It's only once a year, so don't
panic, we won't bombard you. But I wanted to say, several members have
made a nice donation in the last month or two, without being reminded to,
so if you have, please don’t be offended by this letter. It's the
closest thing to a mass mailing that we do. You are on the donors list,
you will get your receipt, but we wanted you to read all about it too.
Also, if you've recently donated and you wish to remain anonymous, drop
off the purple form in the mailing, with the Anonymous box checked off.
I'll know this means your last donation, you don't have to include
another cheque! :)

2. Anti-Idling Campaign

You may have read about this in the last newsletter. Several people
have mentioned that they're interested. If you want to help plan what
we're going to do about this issue, please email info@cleannorth.org and
I'll make sure you get on the list of names of people who want to have
some input. Thanks!

3. Rainbarrel Specials

The Gift Certificates will be ready by the end of the day today (that
means midnight, according to my work schedule!). Peter and I have
planned the incentives as such: For a rainbarrel prepurchased by
December 31 (either gift certificate or for yourself), this year's
pricing still applies: $50 each, delivered and set up in May 2003.
Purchases after Dec. 31 will be $60 each. Springtime prepurchase
special: buy two at $100 until Earth Day, April 22nd.

Prepurchasing allows us to know how many parts to buy and to buy them in
bulk, with somewhat lower prices. It also enables us to plan for spring
work parties to build these composters, knowing how many we will need
for May delivery. So we'll pass on the savings and our appreciation to
you.

4. Volunteer at The Most Wonderful Event of the Clean North Year!

Debbie has a schedule and will be calling shortly. We need to fill time
slots starting on December 27th and going until January 12th, tree
chipping day. If you've helped before, please consider this year being
a shift supervisor. This is the person who is responsible for helping
other volunteers to know what to do to be useful, for keeping people
safe and warm, and for calling for help if needed. There's a Shift
Supervisor's binder in the trailer, with all the details spelled out for
you, and we'll have a cell phone on site too, and phone numbers of
people to call if you need more help. Thanks!

If you're a pickup truck owner, you have a special "feel-good" opportunity
this year, too! The city will stop picking up trees at the
curbside, so if you know any seniors, shut-ins, or single parents who
use a real tree, offer to help them get it to the tree site. It would
be a neighbourly gesture. Thanks!

5. Thanks to Vianet

Also in the "Big Thank You" category, we just received word that soon
our high speed internet woes will be over. Vianet has come through in a
big way! They're making a charitable donation of half the cost of the
business internet solution we needed. This works out to a sizeable
donation, and we are very grateful. So, if you're in the market for a
high speed internet connection at home, you know who we are
recommending! Thanks, Vianet!

6. Paint Exchange still open

Just a reminder that the Paint Exchange is still operating even though
the city's HSW depot is closed for the winter. Latex paints only,
please call first and don't drop off paint when no one is there (it will
freeze and we won't be able to use it). Call 945-1573 for hours. For a
few months still, Steve will be there most afternoons. I am there on
Tues and Thurs from 9:30 to 11:30. Other volunteers are there other
times, so call! Paint is for sale from $1 to $8, depending on the
amount in the can.

Have a wonderful holiday and I hope to see you at the chipping site in a
few weeks!

I awake each morning torn between a desire to save the world, and a
desire to savour the world. This makes it hard to plan my day.
