Members E-News You're getting a paper newsletter very soon (it's already mailed!) so this will be very brief... 1. Three events 2. Plea for patience 3. Anyone know how to drive a forklift? 4. Anyone have a "shade tent" you can lend us? 5. We still need some help with carpeting. 1. Please don't miss our July Hat Trick! This weekend (Fri 9-9, Sat 9-5) is the Book Em, Dan-O book recycling event. We'll be at 550 Second Line, next to the city police station, wearing Hawaiian shirts! Come visit! Bring your unwanted books, damaged books, outdated books. There will be a book sale on the Saturday, if any books come in that are worth selling. Debbie is still calling for volunteers. Next Thursday/Friday, the 11th and 12th, we're working with Environment Canada on a vehicle emissions clinic, in the Canadian Tire parking lot. Come and get your tailpipe checked! Jack is calling for volunteers for this one. You don't have to know anything about cars (well, some of you do, but not all volunteers need to!). And Saturday, the 13th, is the Green Garden Tour. The festival of alternative lawn/garden techniques starts at 8 am at the Allard Street Community Gardens (Red Cross grounds). The garden tour itself is at 10. Stop in during your garage sale rounds! Or offer to help when Sarah calls. ******* 2. With three major Clean North events in eight days, your phone may be ringing more than you'd like it to, with a Clean North volunteer on the other end asking for your time. I want to ask you for your patience, just this once, as Debbie, Jack, and Sarah are all trying to fill volunteer schedules. We don't *mean* to drive you crazy. Please forgive our intrusions. If you can't help, we understand. It's a busy time. ******* 3. Forklift driver needed! For the Book recycling event, we have to move pallets of books onto a transport, using a loading dock and doorway that a transport just doesn't fit into. We can borrow a forklift, but licensed drivers are scarce. Are you one? If so, we really need your talents, for about two hours. Please email petmcla@soonet.ca, or phone Peter at 759-3393 if you can help. ******* 4. Shade tents needed! For the Garden tour and the festival at the Allard Street Gardens, on the 13th. Do you have one of those picnic-type things that looks like a tent with no sides? We need about three or four of them. Call Sarah at the office at 945-1573 if you can lend us one. ******* 5. Carpet layers needed! After the hubbub dies down in later July, we want to get back to that carpeting project. We'll still have our summer students to help with the grunt work of moving our belongings from one end of the office to the other, but we need a few good people to help put down carpeting. Please call the office if you can help. We promise we'll do this on cool days/evenings! No Sweat! Thanks for all you're doing to save this planet. Enjoy her summer beauty! -- This mailing is being sent to Clean North members who have given us their email addresses.
