help wanted

I apologise if you've received this twice. I don't have an easy
cross-reference between mail lists. So choose which one you want to
ignore...

Hi folks. Me again.

(if you read to the end of this and have to say No, please feel free to
pass this request on to a friend, spouse, sibling, offspring, student...
you get the idea)

We're in the middle of a reorganization, redefining the job of the
person who runs the "office" - the Environmental Resource Room. That
means while the Personnel Committee carries out their process, Dee was
laid off as of today (I had been laid off on July 27th, when the
Trillium grant ran out, Dee stayed on under Naturally Green money to
supervise summer students, and they finished up last week.).

I have offered to volunteer mornings keeping things going, while the
Personnel Committee does its job. Peri goes into kindergarten next
week, so I can do so without having to continue paying for daycare, as I
had been doing this past month. Without a co-op student yet, and with
our summer students gone, this should be do-able.

But, I could use some help.

The Personnel Committee recognises that we don't have stable funding to
promise the ERR Manager a definite term of employment. The more time I
can spend on funding development (such as our annual appeal letter, and
grantwriting) the better the situation we can start our manager off
with. So can you spend an hour a week helping? Here's some of the
things to be done...

water plants
fold, stuff, mail the newsletter
answer phone calls about composting, blue box, etc.
write the cheques to pay the bills
vacuum the carpet
post stories on the website
write to Oliver Lehto about the website
call volunteers to help on the 22nd with the tree plant day
call churches to see if we can borrow chairs for Nov. 2 concert
copy, cut up flyers on how to plant trees, for the tree plant day
gather together a "Join Clean North" display for the tree plant day
help compile the monthly reports about the library, into a final report
for HRDC
copy, fold, stuff, mail the annual appeal letter
answer email questions about composting, blue box, etc.
call Towland Hewitson to get them to deliver tree chip mulch on tree
plant day
dust the computers and desks
help organize the paper shelves
shelve library materials so our librarian can make more progress on
cataloguing
feed the fish
take energy conservation booklets and leave them in waiting rooms all
over town
talk to people who drop in, and help them find answers to their
questions
what else do you want to do?

you get the idea. Can you help? email me with your favourite tasks and
the hour you want - such as, 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays - and I'll make
sure
it's ready for you! Or, if you can do any of this from home, that's
great too.

thanks so much for whatever you can do. I have a major grant proposal
due in on 14 September, and several others without deadlines, so if I
can concentrate on those...

thanks

kathie
