I intend to follow up on this. Wanted to let you know about it and invite your participation, either now (planning what we'll do) or when the programs are ready.
thanks Kathie

Hi Kathie,
Sault Ste. Marie Safe Communities Partnership is a not for profit organization that is commited to injury prevention and our community. We are currently working to implement a program that will deliver health & safety training to other not for profit organizations within our community and surrounding area. Bill C-45 is new legislation which is implemented under the Criminal Code of Canada. This new legislation will charge, fine, and may include jail time for injuries or deaths in the workplace. This includes everyone from the Board of Directors down to the co-workers. WSIB cannot pay these fines. They are personal fines and can be a high as $500,000 for corporations and $50,000 for co-workers. Board members and staff can also be sent to jail for a possible 1 year sentence if the court sees fit. This is serious stuff! These charges will be over and above the charges and fines from the Ministry of Labour with the Occupational Health & Safety Act. With the new program we are implementing we want to ensure that all not for profit agencies are aware of the consequences of injuries in their workplace. We will assist the agencies with implementing a health & safety policy, safety program, or better the one currently in place. We will also inform everyone of current legislation and how it effects the not for profit agencies. We will also provide free health & safety training such as First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Fire Extinguisher Safety, and if funding allows us Basic Certification. We would like to know if you would be interested in participating in this program once implemented in Sept '05. We would also like to know if we are missing anything that would better your organization. Please give me a call if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help. If you are impressed with this program and would like to show your support, please send a Letter of Support to the Partnership office c/o Donna Boston-McLean, including how this program will assist you with networking with other not for profit organizations, the need for health & safety training, and assisting you with implementing a safety program in your organization. Thank you for your time. Stay Safe! Karen McFadden Assistant Coordinator Sault Ste. Marie Safe Communities Partnership 99 Foster Drive, Level 1, Civic Centre Sault Ste.
