update on publicity

Bookmarks came back from the copy shop yesterday. We have 1000 of them
in various colours (the copy lady used up odds and ends of card stock
to do them). Doris took them to the three branches of the city public
library, to the Country Way, and to various bookstores. I took some to
the library at my employer, my babysitter took them to Sir James
Dunn High School library and a friend took some to Hilton Beach
library. There are still about 400 at the office, so if you want to
bring some to other spots, feel free. Suggestion was made at the CN
meeting to tuck one in with each CN newsletter going out in two weeks
(about 160 addresses).

Chris has had 50 posters made (not too many just yet bc we may want to
make some changes to the poster closer to time). He's put a few up in
downtown businesses, but posters are at the office now and can be
picked up from the front desk to put out. He's cutting out hawaiian
shirt shapes out of colourful wallpaper scrap, to stick on the posters
to get attention. Anyone have any suitable wrapping paper, wallpaper,
whatever, bring it in!

I sent out the news release last week, Sault Star ran an article on
Tues night that didn't mention the dates and implied that people can
drop books off now. I called them for a clarification but it wasn't in
yesterday's paper. Perhaps it will be in today. Meanwhile we're
getting phone calls from people, most wanting clarification, but a few
complaining that they went all the way there with an armload of books
and we weren't there. We're apologizing. I changed the message on the
Clean North phone to give callers the dates.

Sault This Week hasn't picked up the story yet but I imagine they will
do something next week. I want to get in touch with their photographer
about a picture - maybe of boxes of books in storage at the Friends of
the Library or at a school? Steve, do you have a good photo
opportunity at RM Moore? Front page of STW would be nice.

Haven't done any radio or TV yet. I plan to phone John Campbell on
Sunday morning, and then start the community calendar type things on
radio stations. If you know anyone who controls a portable sign, that
would be a good thing to ask for. I plan to ask Marnie Stone to put
something up on their board outside Stone's Office Supply.

So the publicity is started, now we have to just follow it through.

Debbie Clark came up with a good name, which we can save for next time
if we want - "Book Ends". Isn't that great?!

I think with the Hawaii Five-O theme we have to all wear hawaiian
shirts during the event. Do you know where we can get some of those
plastic lei type things? Debbie says her mom has some Don Ho records
we can borrow and play on a boom box July 5&6. This is going to be fun!
