from the Re-Cycling-too! dept.
This year's holiday recycling festival is ready to roll! Same spot, northwest corner of the Cambrian Mall, starting on the 27th of December, we'll be accepting the usual trees, phone books, and corrugated cardboard, along with old blankets and towels, and books. Plus, new this year, bicycles and bike parts. The Community Bicycle Workshop has plans to Re-Cycle them! More details below...
Tree Chipping Day is January 13th, from 9 am until 3 pm. This is the year that we extend the program for a week, to allow enough time after Little Christmas, when many people take down their tree. So there's no excuse not to chip in! The last tree goes through the chipper at 3 pm and the machinery rolls away, so if you're late we can't take the tree. So plan ahead!
Remove nails, wire, and tinsel for us and we'll be very grateful!
Here's the handy list of items we're reusing/recycling this year. Print it out and stick it on the fridge:
- natural Christmas Trees
- telephone books, any brand, any location, any year
- corrugated cardboard, the three layer wavy kind. Please remove any styrofoam or other packaging materials that aren't corrugate.
- old unwanted blankets or towels, for the Humane Society
- books and magazines, for the Friends of the Library bookstore
- bikes and bike parts, for the Community Bicycle Workshop
Thanks to our major sponsors, the Cambrian Mall, Great Lakes Power, Dial Source Plus, Rainone Construction, the PUC, Christie Campers, Towland-Hewitson, Lajoie Brothers Construction, Palmer Paving, Quattra Communication, City of Sault Ste. Marie, and Sault Ste. Marie Disposal.
And, community partners East Side Venturers, Operation Springboard, The Sault Cycling Club, The Friends of the Library, and the Humane Society.
And, all the people who help with this in ways big and small. From our site workers, to the people with pickup trucks who throw in a neighbour's tree to bring it to us.
